A lot of older homes are being renovated and remodeled. New constructions going on in Cheatam County and more specifically Ashland City. Many of the properties will have larger than usual lot sizes and you’ll also find a lot of properties that have between one and five acres and some properties will be even bigger than that. 

The city was incorporated in 1859. It’s been around for a while, but the population is still less than 6,000 people. When it comes to looking at places to live in Ashland City, it is definitely affordable. The median single-family home right now in March of 2022 is about $295,000 and the median price for townhomes is about $190,000. 

There are not a ton of townhomes in Ashland City, so if you see one, you better grab it because it won’t be there for very long. In fact, days on market for town homes is about two days and days on market for cities is four days.

About Ashland City, TN

Ashland City is the largest city in the county seat of Cheatham County, located on the Cumberland River. Cheatham County is not far from Davidson County. Located to the southeast of Nashville, about 15 miles or 30 minutes or so. Clarksville is to the northwest about 20 miles or about 30 minutes. 

State Route 49 will take you all the way east to Springfield, Tennessee. Only about 9 miles off of I-24. It’s a really good location and you get to be out in a more rural country area where you have a lot of diversity in the property.

Living in Ashland City, TN

Ashland City is a fantastic location. It has small-town charm, it has beautiful countryside, it has beautiful nature retreats and it has a number of other amenities. If you want to live right on the Cumberland River, one of your options is the Braxton, which is actually high-rise condos that were built right on the Cumberland River and those are absolutely amazing. 

If you like to be outdoors, Ashland City offers you Caldwell Park, A City Park John C. “Preacher” Poole Recreation Area, JW Johns Junior Park, River Bluff Park, and the Cumberland River Bicentennial Trail, as well as a 911 memorial playground. If you like being outdoors or being on the water, Ashland City could be a really great choice for you. 

If you look at Niche.com there are some overall grades for Cheatham County. You’ll be able to see some public school grades and you can also go to other websites and check out more details about the schools in any particular area. 

  • For housing, it is rated a B+. 
  • Jobs get a B
  • Cost of living gets a B+. One of the great things about being in Tennessee, no matter where you live, there is no state income tax. A lot of people come here for that reason. 
  • Outdoor activities get a C+. There are a number of parks and outdoor activities that you can participate in. 
  • Crime and safety get a B-. 
  • Nightlife gets a C.So there’s not a lot of things open super late and nothing really open 24 hours. But again, you’re super close to Nashville, Clarksville, and all kinds of places. 
  • Diversity gets a B 
  • Weather gets a B-
  • Health and fitness get a C. But again, there’s a lot that you can do, particularly outdoors in Ashland City.
  • The commute gets a C plus. So it is really close to Nashville, it is close to Clarksville, and some other bigger cities.

The only thing I can think of with that is there is no public transportation. So you do need a car to get in and out of Ashland City if you’re going to go very far.
